A head of a statewide consumer rights group, who says she was overcharged when she refinanced her mortgage, is taking matters into her own hands, suing Bank of America on behalf of herself and other borrowers.
A lawsuit by Marceline White, executive director of the Maryland Consumer Rights Coalition, seeks class-action status in Baltimore City Circuit Court. It alleges that Bank of America, the nation’s largest bank, through its Countrywide Home Loans subsidiary, overcharged her and others by up to thousands of dollars on recording taxes and filing fees when they refinanced their mortgages.
It also claims that Bank of America, which bought Countrywide in 2008, failed to provide White and other borrowers timely and complete finance agreements related to their loans, or a written, final loan commitment, as required by Maryland law.
The suit was filed March 22 in Circuit Court for Baltimore City.
