First Niagara Financial Group Inc. has elected Barbara S. Jeremiah to a three-year term on its board of directors.
Jeremiah, a Pittsburgh native, was an executive vice president, corporate development, at Alcoa Inc., overseeing its merger, acquisition and divestiture activities. She is currently a director of Allegheny Technologies Inc. and EQT Corp., both based in Downtown Pittsburgh.
Buffalo-based First Niagara (Nasdaq:FNFG) entered western Pennsylvania last September by acquiring 57 former National City branches, 50 of which are in the Pittsburgh metro area.
Thomas Bowers, chairman of First Niagara’s board, said in a prepared statement that Jeremiah’s executive level public experience will be beneficial.
“As a current board member of two public companies in the western Pennsylvania market, she will also be a valuable resource as First Niagara grows its presence in the region,” he added.
