UK holidaymakers are set to fork out over 60 million on charges for using their credit cards overseas during the remainder of this year, it has been claimed.

According to a survey conducted on behalf of Post Office Credit Card, more than half (55 per cent) of those questioned said that they would be charged a fee by their card issuer for using their card abroad.

An additional 13 per cent said they didn’t know if their credit card carried charges.

Az Alibhai, Post Office head of cards, warned: “This summer millions of travellers will waste money on unnecessary fees, and worryingly many are not even aware of how much this will increase their holiday spending.

” Holidays should be a time to relax and enjoy yourself, but these extra pounds paid every time you make a purchase could result in extra stress when the credit card bill arrives.”

Research by Bright Grey has shown that 32 per cent of British adults will add to their credit card debts as a result of booking their summer getaways.
