An elderly man in Wiltshire has lost nearly GBP10,000 in a credit card scam, it has emerged. The victim, who hasnt been named, had received a couple of phone calls from a man claiming to work for the NatWest bank who said he was a courier and had to collect old credit cards before replacements could be sent out to him.
When the man got to his house he took away the cards, which it later turned out were used in three fraudulent transactions .
Residents in Wiltshire are now being warned about the con. The man who collected the credit cards, who it later transpired did not work for NatWest, was described as wearing a white T-shirt and jeans, and had short hair and stubble.
A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said they were attempting to establish if the incident was linked to similar occurrences reported in Surrey, and advised that members of the public should not engage with cold callers or to give out any personal information . Read more…

Parking meters in Los Angeles that accept credit cards as a form of payment are proving to be a convenience for the city’s drivers.
According to officials, the new pay machines brought in $230,000 in September, which went beyond initial expectations. When the meters were first implemented, it was expected they could produce between $1 million and $1.5 million annually.
“Since we installed the first of these new meters in May, they immediately began earning their keep in the city of Los Angeles,” Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa said.
The meters allow drivers to pay for spaces with a credit card, rather than having to lug around loose change.
